The new 4.4 version of WordPress has rolled out, dubbed “Clifford”, and has brought several new features that the WordPress community should be pretty excited about. If you’re a WordPress website owner or website developer, take note of the three most prominent new features.
1. New default theme. “Twenty Sixteen” is the brand new default WordPress theme. While most developers don’t use a the default wordpress theme, they may enjoy the simplicity and mobile-first thought that went behind this design, which was designed on a harmonious fluid grid with a mobile-first approach. It looks fantastic on any device!
2. Responsive images. This is huge for the mobile-age we find ourselves in. The new WordPress 4.4 now automatically scales images to fit best on any screen or device. This is built into WordPress and does not require any additions or plugins. Very cool!
3. Embed WordPress Posts. This is pretty major and brings a whole new social aspect to WordPress. Much the way you can embed tweets into a post, or the way you get an article title and snippet preview when you share a link on Facebook or Twitter, you can now embed your WordPress posts on other WordPress websites and it will pull in the title, excerpt, and featured image. You can also embed other’s WordPress posts on your website.
If you haven’t tried it out yet, what are you waiting for? Exciting times ahead for WordPress!
